We started to work on preparing our next issue: ‘Borders, Movement, and Transitioning.’ We are interested in publishing written and visual content, including articles, features, art and photography related to or impacted by the non-normative sexuality and gender in the Middle East and North Africa region. Topics might include the following:
Political, Economic, and Physical borders
- The Refugee Crisis
- Checkpoints between countries
- Security checks to enter commercial centers
- Labor migration
Societal, Personal, and Gender borders
- Personal boundaries and space, such as the borders that lie between individuals, and the penetration or violation of personal spaces of “non-standard” bodies
- Borders imposed upon us with clear lines delineating things such as sexual identity and associated stereotypes
- Interactions in which gender and gender expression is of concern. For example, transgenderism is a type of movement and breaking of gender norms and tradition dictated by society.
Other borders
- Moral borders, such as those relating to the limits of Islam and other religion, or the limits of sexual practices
- Voluntary separation as an effective means of combating apartheid
